Rembrandt was born in this city ! And the synthetic helium also !
With a big university, this is one of the biggest student city !
The morning of my arrival my host Tim just cancelled my couch request : he was in hospital... PANIC !! What was I supposed to sleep this night ?
Well fortunatly, the fate was with me : I had send a request to Eva few days before and she was not be able to host me (exams and work) but she changed her mind few days after Tim accepted me. So I contacted her, explaining the situation and she accepted my request ! It was so nice of her !
The only thing was that she has to work until 22pm so I had to wait for her. It was not a problem, but 22pm, 22:30pm, 23:00pm... I had my hudge backpack, my heavy frontpack and a groceries bag in my hand with two or three bottles... Impossible to walked with all that under the heavy rain and the windy weather... That was the first time that I really thinked about sleeping in the station ! Well, why not, I’...
In 2013, I have worked for a french book publishing house : Les Éditions du Dauphin. One of the book series was "*Language* Express". Swahili, Thahitian, Mongol, Polish, Dutch, Tagalog, Hindi, Arabic... Almost all the languages were represented. In the Dutch one, they warmly recommended to go to see Enkhuizen. As it looked already beautiful on Google, I decided to follow this advice and go there.
Obviously, the weather were with me so far : I arrived with the rain, but the next day, the sun was shining all day long, offering me the best photographic opportunity of my all journey !
Enkhuizen was a fisherman's town and boats are almost everywhere just as the water of course. So by the end of the day, I had an amazing sundown, refleting in the water... It was so magic to see that.
I was freezing but I do not wanted to go... I wanted to stay to see the clouds get pink.
On the evening, my host, Sander, took me for a walk, a kind of "Enkhuizen by night" and it was very nice ! I really ha...
I was pretty sad to leave Herman & Jolanda, but I could not made Doezum-Amsterdam-Paris in the same day (almost 8hours of journey) but a great moment was waiting for me in Amsterdam this time.
For the short story : Two weeks before the beggining of my road trip, I began to send request to find host in Amsterdam and Frank were the only one to answer. But during my stay in Doezum, Joren wakes up and send me a new proposal to stay for the night right before my return in Paris. I felt a free spirit and a common love for music when I sent him a request the first time so I accepted, following my intuition. And I have to say that my intuition was, once again pretty good.
I was impressed : he didn’t mentionned on couchsurfing.com that he talks an almost fluent french (because of his French mum).
He came back from his football practice around 11:30pm but he bring me to a Live blues club near the flat and it was just perfect : watching a young drunk couple dancing together,...
It was a pleasure to come back in this magic place.
The first time I was there, was last summer, I came for 8 days to work at the farm by woofing.com and it was my first real contact with dutch people. I usually stayed few days in Amsterdam but I needed to see more. As I love countryside, the woofing by summer was a great option !
There where a sort of instantaneous connection with Herman and Jolanda, a mutual trust and a common way to abord life and the nature.
They introduced me to a lot of local producers, made me tasted organic products of Friesland, and treated me as a member of their own family. And we keeped contact since.
When I decided to plan my roadtrip, I had to came back in Doezum !
This was two amazing days with simple things : eating a home made Duck paté, feeding the animals with the morning lights and the frysian landscape, visiting old churches all around the province, listening the Friesland’s Stories about captain Top and the 22 sailors deads to...
I spend two night in Groningen.
This is not the first time that I come here : this summer, I was woofing near Buitenpost. It was an amazing experience and my hosts bring me once in Groningen on a market day, and an other day, they bring me to Leeuwarden. I really likes those both cities atmosphere so I decided to come back to spend time here and really feel how is the life there ! I had not enought time to see both cities, the choice has been made with the couchsurfing that I’ve found.
Wijnand is from Sneek, but he lives in Groningen, he wanted to suprised his girlfriend Klaske with a weekend in Paris from the 19th to the 23th : by chance it was the exact moment that I had planned to go back home in Paris ! More than that, Wijnand and I are in the same professional field : communication, media, copy righting and ideas conceptions !
We were both agrees that it was the best solution for everyone to make this hosting exchange.
I have beggined to right an article about my wonderfull feeling in the train on Friday, on the road for my dutch-trip... About how it was beautiful when the train lady talked to me in dutch, how it was nice to meet an other french photographer on the train, and two great Italians girls in my couchsurfer’s house.
But this Friday 13th 2015 gonna stay in our History books.
-- The shock.
It’s difficult to realize...
It’s happenned in my own country, in the city were I was born, were most of my friends lives...
I was just talking to the Italians girls, that I’ve just met in my couchsurfer’s flat, when I received a notification around 10 pm, about a shooting in Paris -10 deads -
I told it loud, but no one paid attention, and me neither, I was thinking about a settling of accounts or something... I couldn’t imagine something else. Not again.
After the departures of Italians, when we go back to Frank’s house, he turn on the live TV and I’ve seen my city.

In 2010, I've done my first travel in Amsterdam. I was 18th, and we had decided with a friend to visit and have a good time there.
I didn't expected to fall in love with this city but the architecture, the museums, the smoky streets, the kindness of the natives, the design vision and a lot of other things make me feel like home. Since, I come back at least to time by year.
Last summer, I've done Woofing (you work in an organic farm and they provides you a bed, meals and roof), near Buitenpost and my host was amazing, a very beautiful family with lot of respect for Nature, animals and human beings. They where actually the first dutch people that I really met, and it push me to see and meet more.
To celebrate my "Netherlands birthday", I've decided to made a road trip around the country, only by couchsurfing to meet a maximum of people.
This blog gonna tell my stories.
This photo has been taken in 2010 during my first travel in Netherlands.
It was the first time that I really con...
